Description Twin themes: the way in which a contemporary society can imprison individuals and the way that language can be used to prohibit communication between them. An ageing brother and sister, Elliot and Betty Lacey, have isolated themselves from all but Elliot's lawyer and a visiting social worker. They are visited by a young girl, an ex-punk who has sought refuge in Christian fundamentalism and speaking in tongues. The girl is raped by her fellow proselytizer, the social worker acts as the link between the two 'cases', the possibility that the Laceys act as foster parents to the girl is raised. … A richly textured play.
