Notes Obituary— Mrs. Chippendale, the well-known actress. Mrs. Mary J. Chippendale (nee Snowdon), widow of the late W. H. Chippendale, actor, entered the dramatic profession 1855, Together with her husband she was for several years in the late Mr. Buckstone's Haymarket Company. Her principal oharacters were Mrs. Candour ('School for Scandal'), and Mrs. Malaprop ('The Rivals'). She played Martha in 'Faust,' in Mr. Irving's Lyceum Company, in 1887. Mrs. Chippendale came out to Australia with Miss Marie deGrey in 1884, but did not accompany that lady in her tour through New Zealand. She, however, visited this colony in 1885, when she appeared as a member of Mr. Wybett Reeve's company, whioh opened in Wellington on 15th June. The company played a return season here, commencing on the 14th September of the same year. Mrs. Chippendale, during the first season in this city, visited the cemetery, and was shown the grave of Mrs. Fitzwilliam, the lady who had induced her to take to the stage.
