Description This play avoioids both the tragic inevitability of classical drama and the happy-ever-after of the fairy-tale ending. Instead, it stays close to realism in its inevitable compromise; the uncer­tainties of life are about to settle grudgingly into a new pattern. Nothing good or bad is finally de­stroyed, it is only the end of an episode of which the consequences are not concluded.
