| Description | 1642, when Abel Janzoon Tasman became the first recorded European to sight New Zealand. In this gentle satire, O'Sullivan depicts the incident in which Dutch seamen, sending out a jolly trumpet blast in response to local Maori, unwittingly accepted the challenge to a fight. The play moves in time and space, telling the story from both sides, and includes a 17th century Dutch hymn sung by Wellington's Silver Tulip Choir. | |||||||
